Word Games and Draw Something Crazy

scramble scoreI’m back! My latest adventures will come later.

In the meantime, I’ve been entertaining myself and torturing my friends with the iPhone/Droid game Scramble. Being severely Words-With-Friends-challenged due to a 3-or-4-letter-word-limit issue, I thought this would be better for me.

It’s like Boggle…and still a word game…so I should have known better.

I have a better shot of flying to the moon with cardboard wings than winning a match.

Certain that I hear groans four states away when I push the “Play Again” button, I can’t be swayed to give it up. That angel wearing Nikes on my shoulder keeps whispering “Just do it!” Beaming with pride, I’m showing off my improved performance…up from the previous 1/4 of my opponent’s score.

This led to the next gaming adventure…

My stick-figure drawing skills have come in handy with Draw Something

If you aren’t familiar with this game, you draw something and send it to a friend. They have to guess what you drew and then send you a drawing back. My kids and I have been laughing our heads off!

Even the six year old has been playing despite a few reading mishaps such as drawing “spin” when the word was “spine”. Deciphering her pictures is similar to CIA code breaking. If you don’t respond immediately, she wanders the house to find you. The backed up laundry is proof she’s pretty insistent. “What’s taking so long?!”

I thought I would test my readers’ interpretation skills in trying to figure out my kids’ drawings.

Good Moms Have Sticky Floors

This weekend I came across a piece of wall art on Catching Fireflies that said:

“Good Moms Have Sticky Floors, Dirty Ovens, and Happy Kids”
I feel better already. It comes as no surprise that it was sold out.

When I tweeted this saying and put it on my Facebook, it prompted a lot of responses and many Amens. Single Dads and Grandmas wanted in on it, too.

Happy Kids

Happy kids

Smiling kids. I know she draws better than me.
Note: All girls are princesses which explains the crowns.

Jessica suggested adding “something dripping in the fridge” to the list, which I totally agree with. I imagine the wall art could be expanded to cover the entire kitchen wall.

Some things I would include…

paper dolls

Two of about 50 paper people constantly showing up around the house. I think they are the cutest things!
Wait! Girls don't have noses?

  • Unidentified moldy food in the back of the refrigerator.
  • Pile of folded laundry on the top of the dryer.
  • Living room floor covered in paper scraps from a paper doll project. –>
  • Weeds in the flower bed
  • Smudges on the sliding glass door
  • Dusty ceiling fans

Art by my five year old budding artist

What would you add to the list?

Stick Figure Pictures Hanging in the Louvre?

Isn’t stickfigurology an art form?

Not just anyone can draw crooked…cough…on purpose. Right? That’s a technique I perfected during my intense studies at the reputable Crayola 96 Colors Academy of Fine Arts.

What’s a pretend artist to do?

You send your artwork to a friend who will appreciate its true value.

Go check out my newest creations hanging up above the couch at Telling Dad: Hooray! I Only Lost One Child! – his hysterical recollection of what happened when he spoke to his son’s 4th grade class about entrepreneurship. He, of course, added some hysterical text.

I’ll be here drafting an official request to send to the Museum Curator about adding a stick figure exhibit. Wish me luck!
